March Update and Trip to Palestine!
The past month or so has been a busy one for the OxPal team and students, with a total of 4 internal medicine and 2 paediatrics tutorials given in March. We’re also incredibly excited to announce that April is set to be an even more exciting month: our annual field trip to Palestine has been confirmed for the 11th to the 16th of April! The team is incredibly excited, and it will be the first time that our new members will be visiting the area and meeting the students we work with. So stay posted on our twitter for more information. As well as all this, the team has been working on a number of other projects with the wider healthcare community, spreading the word of OxPal.
On the 26th and 27th of February, a few members of the OxPal team were lucky enough to attend the Africa Healthcare Summit 2015 on behalf of Medicine Africa. This is Africa’s largest healthcare event in Europe and was a great chance to see the cutting edge of technological and policy innovations in healthcare. There were a number of panels on Healthcare Education, including e-learning in the continent, and we were able to have some interesting conversations, including one about ways of encouraging diaspora healthcare workers to contribute to online learning programmes as a way of sharing skills and countering the effects of the brain drain. Fingers crossed this will be a new avenue for MedicineAfrica and OxPal!
Two OxPal members, Anna Carlqvist and Mashal Iftikhar then represented the team in Boston, USA, at the Consortium of Universities for Global Health, presenting a poster on international online teaching to over 1600 conference registrants form 51 countries.
On the 13th of March, some team members were lucky enough to be invited to the Al-Quds Foundation for Medical Schools in Palestine Annual Dinner in Aid of Medical Education for Palestine. The foundation is one of our generous partners and it was an honour and a privilege to be a part of such a wonderful night, for a great cause.
We’re excited to continue on into April and keep on gathering steam. Lastly, we’d like to give a warm welcome to our new administrative team members and tutors, whose work keeps this organisation going. It’s going to be a great month!
